On your wedding day, you can have the cake of your dreams and eat it, too!
Traditional sponge cake with white icing is a thing of the past. The wedding cake should be a work of creative art as well as a delicious dessert. Many reception sites and caterers include the cake with their wedding packages, but you may prefer to select a baker on your own.

Look through their cake albums to find a cake type, size, and style you like and make sure to sample just a little of everything! From a three-tiered dark chocolate cake with passion fruit mousse filling to lemon poppy-seed cake and orange crème icing, the choices for your wedding cake are almost limitless. Can't choose just one luscious filling? Go for one in each tier! The number of tiers is dictated by sheer preference, budget, or the number of guests you need to feed.
Generally speaking, it is the outside cake decorations which most affect cost. While the icing is generally white, the inside follows no rules and can be any flavor. Just remember, always insist on a tasting session before you choose a baker.
Decorations and toppers for your cake aren't limited to the conventional bride and groom anymore, either. Everything from fresh flowers, lace, charms and jewels can adorn the dessert of your dreams.

The Groom's Cake
The groom's cake is an old Southern tradition that fades in and out of favor. While it is certainly not mandatory, it does add a sweet touch to the day. This cake, generally a chocolate cake with chocolate icing, is cut, placed in take-home boxes, and given to guests upon departure. Legend has it when a single girl places this cake under her pillow will dream of the man she will marry.
