The transition between the remorseful exit from a non-working relationship to the blissful entry into a new marital abode, often leads to the creation of a blended family. A blended family refers to a post-matrimony family structure, where the children from the previous relationships of either or both partners also form its part. It is virtually a marriage between two families, rather than two people. There is a new trend of including children, if any, from both the sides, in the marriage ceremony and the ritual of exchanging vows. This way, the children get the sense of belonging to the new family and feel wanted in the new set up.

One important aspect about the blended family wedding vows custom is that it is neither a traditional practice, nor a religious one. Therefore, the involvement of children can be conveniently decided upon, based upon various considerations, such as their age group, personal preferences, consent of all concerned, and so on. Following are some of the points to be kept in mind while going in for a blended wedding:

•    Preparations
Like any other occasion, the preparatory stage of a blended family wedding is of prime importance. You should make prior decisions about where and how do you want the kids to participate, like as a ring bearer, as a flower girl, or during Unity Candle Ritual & the recitals. In fact, if the children are grown up enough to be able to make some suggestions, they should form a part of your planning. Apart from the scope of better ideas, the children will realize that they have a say in family matters, which can further help in strengthening the familial ties.
